Install ScoZu

ScoZu 1.0 for the Xteink X4 Pro. About five minutes; the books on your SD card stay where they are.

Install

  1. Charge the X4 Pro, plug it in with a USB-C cable that carries data, and leave it on and awake.
  2. Press Install ScoZu and pick the X4 Pro in the list (it may be called “USB JTAG/serial debug unit”). We check it’s an X4 Pro before writing anything, then write ScoZu into its spare slot and check it.
  3. When it’s done, unplug the cable and plug it back in, then hold the power button until ScoZu starts.
Bought your X4 Pro from a third-party store? Some ship with USB flashing locked, and flashing a locked X4 can permanently brick it. If it doesn’t appear in the list, or you’re not sure, unlock it first with CrossPoint’s unlock tool and read its warnings.

You’re done

The puzzles’ word lists come with ScoZu. The first time you hold a word to look it up, ScoZu offers to download its dictionary over Wi-Fi (9 MB); a dictionary already on the card works too.

Want the dictionary ready straight away? With ScoZu running, open Connect › USB Drive on the X4 Pro and plug it in, then add it from here and choose the X4 Pro’s card (the drive itself).

Questions

Coming from Xteink’s firmware or CrossPoint?

That’s fine either way. ScoZu goes into the X4 Pro’s spare slot, so what was running before stays there untouched until your first ScoZu update.

My X4 Pro doesn’t appear in the list

Check the cable carries data and the X4 Pro is on. Some X4s bought from third-party stores ship with USB flashing locked: unlock it first with CrossPoint’s unlock tool, and read its warnings: flashing a locked X4 can permanently brick it.

Going back to Xteink’s firmware

CrossPoint’s flash tools can install the official Xteink firmware at any time.

Already on ScoZu? Updating

Updating is the same as installing, either way above. Your books and settings stay on the SD card.

The installer is built on CrossPoint’s open-source flasher and Espressif’s esptool-js.
